American 4-Point Inspection System ('ASTM D5430')
To ensure strict alignment between our Dongyang manufacturing mill and your overseas garment cutting room, Chantru Textile enforces the American Standard 4-Point System ('ASTM D5430'). This objective, internationally recognized grading methodology assigns penalty points based on defect dimensions and guarantees that only verified A-Grade rolls enter our shipping containers.
Penalty Point Allocation Schedule
Minor single yarn slubs, tiny color fly specks, or localized small knot ends.
Short missing picks, localized light streak marks, or minor weave tension dips across several threads.
Noticeable float threads, selvedge irregularity, or moderate dye bar shade marks.
Any physical hole/tear, severe oil/grease stain, continuous warp run, or full-width weft bar.
Chantru Mill 4-Step Inspection Workflow
100% Pre-Shipment Table Examination
Every finished fabric roll is unrolled and inspected across 12 automated and manual inspection frames under high-intensity 1,200-lux balanced daylight (`D65`) lamps. We never perform statistical spot-checks or 10% sampling on export orders; every linear meter is physically examined.
Real-Time Electronic Width & GSM Logging
As the fabric travels over the inspection table at a controlled speed of 15 meters per minute, automated optical sensors continuously log edge-to-edge width and electronic load cells check roll weight density (`GSM`) to verify strict adherence to order tolerances.
Gold Edge Flagging of Defects
Whenever an inspector or optical camera detects a defect, the inspection machine pauses, and a metallic gold thread marker (`or red adhesive arrow tag`) is placed exactly on the selvedge edge aligned with the defect, enabling your cutting room to spot it instantly.
Defect Point Calculation & Roll Acceptance Formula
Total penalty points are calculated using the universal American ASTM D5430 formula: `(Total Points x 3,600) / (Inspected Yardage x Fabric Width in Inches) = Points per 100 Linear Yards`. If a roll scores <= 40 points, it is classified as A-Grade. If > 40 points, it is rejected.
Strict 'A-Grade Only' Policy (< 40 Points)
Many international trading companies mix in 'B-grade' rolls allowing up to 60 or 80 penalty points per 100 linear yards. At Chantru Textile, any individual roll scoring over 40 penalty points ('or containing more than 3 full-width defects regardless of point total') is automatically stripped of its export barcode and downgraded to domestic clearance. You receive only 100% verified A-Grade rolls.
We invite your designated third-party inspection agencies ('SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek, or your internal QA team') to conduct on-site 4-point inspection checks across our Dongyang inspection facilities prior to container loading.
Comprehensive Inspection Reports
Every shipment includes a signed, roll-by-roll 4-Point Inspection Report listing:
- •Individual roll number & barcode trace ID
- •Exact gross and net linear yardage / meters
- •Measured width (cm) and actual roll GSM
- •Exact penalty point breakdown and final grade
If you manufacture high-precision hospital surgical gowns, aerospace composites, or automotive airbag seating, our inspection lines can be calibrated to ultra-strict 28-point or zero-defect optical tolerances upon request.
